Tivaevae

On the 16 of May my teacher Dave took our whole class to the Suter Art Gallery and Esther (a lady who works there) taught us how to make Tivaevae. Tivaevae is an art from the Cook Islands. Here was the process we went through to make them:

First we picked a square of coloured paper to be our background.
Then we picked another piece of coloured paper to be our leaves and we folded it four times.
Then we drew what shape we wanted our leaves to be and cut it out
After that we folded the paper out and glued it on to the background paper.
Next we picked some paper that was coloured on one side and sticky on the other side that was going to be the spine of our leaves.
Once we had cut the sticky paper into strips we put it on our leaves.
Our Tivaevae had to be symmetrical so next we got a template of a small flower and drew around it four times then cut them out.
Next we decided on a symmetrical place to put all the four flowers.
Then at last we glued them down then our Tivaevaes were finished.

They looked awesome individually but even better when we arranged them together. When we got back to school we made some more but they were more modern versions.

Technology Challenge

We are doing technology challenges this week for fun. So far we have done a newpaper world of wearable arts. Check out our pictures.

Summit Club

Summit club is cool. We do it every Thursday. Summit club is where a few children and adults go up the Centre of N.Z. They have their lunch up there and then walk back down to be back at school before class starts again. We do this as a way of keeping fit.

Our Teacher

Our teacher is Dave. He is an awesome teacher although he is tough. Dave is cool . He occasionally gives us lollypops and stuff. He is very fit for his age.

We're so cool!!!

We are a class of 31 year 5 & 6 students. We are aged from 9-11 and we are also very cool. We (Libby, Claudia Rosa, Liam, Liam and Sam) have been chosen to start our class blog site. We are coolest.
